Sclerotherapy for Varicose Veins
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins. You may have seen the elders with abnormally visible veins, especially on their legs. Nevertheless, varicose veins do not only occur in older people. According to Healthline, about 25% of adults have varicose veins. Varicose veins typically appear on the lower legs but can appear in other areas of your body too.
This is because your legs are the part of your body that is furthest away from your heart. They are also affected by gravity the most which place more pressure on the veins in that area. Getting rid of varicose veins is largely a cosmetic decision; varicose veins appear swollen and raised, and have a bluish-purple or red colour. The problem with them is that they can become very painful. In this case, your motivation would be more than aesthetics.
Some potential causes for varicose veins:
- Pregnancy.
- Menopause.
- Being middle-aged.
- A family history of varicose veins.
How does sclerotherapy work?
This option is a minimally invasive procedure that treats varicose veins. In most cases, it is a salt solution that is injected through a very fine needle directly into the vein. You may experience mild pain for a moment, when the solution is injected - especially for larger veins, but it will not be an ongoing pain. This is a short procedure lasting between 15 to 30 minutes depending on your need.
If you struggling with varicose veins, they can be treated. You do not have to live with the pain or discomfort that they have brought into your life. After your treatment, you should be able to commence with your normal tasks and wear what you want without varicose veins affecting your confidence.
